Elaine Douglas

Elaine Douglas, 82, entered into God’s kingdom on February 19, 2024. She was born February 13, 1942, to Ralph and Gladys Douglas. Elaine, an incredible loving and supportive mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Gladys Douglas and her brother, Russell Douglas and is survived by her siblings Doris Lemke and Ray Douglas; son, Keith Evans; daughter, Cathy Westurn; and grandchildren, Jay Evans, Evan Westurn, LeighAnn Evans and Dawson Westurn. Upon graduation from Brodhead High School in 1960, Elaine attended The Business Institute of Milwaukee where she completed business courses to further her successful career as an Administrative Assistant. Prior to becoming an Administrative Assistant, she supported students with special needs in the Pasadena, Texas public school system. Following her career in special education, she joined the cancer research team at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, Texas and became an Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Research. Elaine’s outside interests included crafts and playing her bass clarinet in the community orchestra. Through these activities, Elaine made a lasting impact on so many lives. She shared her love of crafts through teaching craft classes to families of cancer patients while their loved ones were being treated for cancer, she taught crafts to seniors at the Forever Young senior center, assisted living centers and nursing care facilities. She also shared her love of music by visiting nursing homes to play her xylophone for the residents. She touched so many lives and will truly be missed. A burial ceremony will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Brodhead on Saturday, June 15 at 10am, with a celebration of life event following to be held at United Church of Christ at E 201 23rd Street in Brodhead. In remembrance, the family requests memorial gifts in Elaine’s honor be donated to the Forever Young Activity Center in Quitman, Tx. (quitmanseniors.org or Forever Young Center P.O. Box 538 Quitman, Tx. 75783), the senior center that became a large part and support system for Elaine for over 20 years.
