Patricia Ann Scott Nicholas

Rock City, IL - Patricia Ann Scott Nicholas, age 74, passed away on September 29, 2022. She was born on January 7, 1948 in Grinnell, Iowa to Delmar and Maxine (Bope) Scott. Patty had a vivacious personality and loved to laugh. She consistently reminded those around her not to take life too seriously. Her quick wit, engaging storytelling, lively sense of humor, and genuine warmth made her a beloved friend to many. For over 40 years, Patty worked as a flight attendant for American Airlines. She loved the varied experiences her career afforded her, including meeting the occasional celebrity and finding those little “God moments” helping others. Patty was a dedicated mother. She loved being a mom and was an enthusiastic supporter of all her children’s endeavors. Whether it be football, wrestling, music, softball, showing pigs, or drama, she was always there to uplift and encourage them. Patty was a person with diverse interests, and she fostered the same in her children, insisting that it made them more well-rounded, complete people. A pillar of strength, Patty worked tirelessly to make sure her children always had everything they needed. Music was Patty’s heart. It wasn’t uncommon for her to break into songs like, “Mississippi Mud,” anything from “The Music Man,” "A Bushel and a Peck," or “Proud of You'' from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. Most of all, Patty loved to “tell the old, old story” through the singing of hymns, expressing her deep and abiding faith. Patty is survived by her 4 children, Sarah (Lee) Price, Michael (Daniela) Nicholas, Scott (Hannah) Nicholas and Claire Nicholas (Chris); 4 grandchildren, Reese, Eliza, Birdie and Everett; two sisters, Marilyn (Allen) Read and Diane Harden, as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Delmar and Maxine, her step father, Merle Craig, and a sister, Jane Craig. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family in her memory. A memorial visitation will be held at the DL Newcomer Funeral home in Brodhead on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 11:00 AM, with an additional hour of visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
