Catherine M. Gissing, age 90, of Brodhead, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe, WI. She was born on April 7, 1929 in Cadiz Township, the daughter of George and Alice (Good) Lawver. She married Lawrence Gissing on September 12, 1948. He passed away on May 27, 2002.
Catherine graduated from Monroe High School in 1946. She and her husband had farmed near Juda and Brodhead, prior to moving to Brodhead in 1968. She had worked at various jobs, including, Swiss Colony, where she retired in 1991. She later served 2 terms on the County Board and The Aging Advisory Committee. Catherine belonged to the United Methodist Church of Brodhead. She enjoyed many family trips to the western states, doing crossword puzzles and also was an avid card player and reader.
Catherine is survived by her children, Susan Sack,, Freeport, IL, Steven Gissing, Ft. Atkinson, WI, Sharon (Gary) Keller, Juda, WI, Shirley (Shane) Miller, Highbridge, WI, Connie Gissing, Brodhead, David (Linda) Gissing, Monroe; a sister, Mabel Yeagle, Monroe; three grandchildren, Jim, Joe, Dan; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew, Wesley, Ryan, Emily, Mariah, Kassidy, Riley; two great great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Jayce, and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Robert, Harold, George and Glen Lawver; sisters, Nellie Berget, Francis Babler, and Irene Siedschlag
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the United Methodist Church, Brodhead, WI, with Rev. Krystal Goodger officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of floral tributes, memorials can be made to the Green County Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
