Howard R. Berra, age 96, formerly of Albany, WI, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Rachel’s Choice Assisted Living, Monroe, WI. He was born on December 27, 1922 in Mellette, SD, the youngest of seven children, to John and Elizabeth (Wolfe) Berra. In 1936 his family moved to Wisconsin. He married Lois Bakken in Stoddard, WI, on June 5, 1943. She passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018.
Howard and his wife farmed for 60 years in the Stoddard and Brodhed areas. Howard was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by 2 sons, Harley (Tina) of Brodhead, WI and Jeffrey (Kristi) of Albany, WI; 2 daughters, Nancy Hawkins of Monroe, WI and Joan (Ken) Kurth of Buckeye, AZ; 9 grandchildren, Tammy Kolovitz of Janesville, WI, Kevin and Troy Pryce of Monroe, WI, Eric Pryce of Afton, WI, Travis Hawkins of Brodhead, Cory (Margaret) Bliss of Peoria, AZ, Danielle Brotherhood of Janesville, WI, Ashlee and Andrew Berra of Albany, WI; 4 great-grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; 2 step grand-daughters, Brenda and Katie Huffman, Albany, WI, 4 step great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son, Rodney, a brother, Glenn Berra, and five sisters, Zelma King, Leona Dugan, Wilma Barilani, Irene and Amber Levendoski.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brodhead, WI. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at the D.L. Newcomer Funeral Home, Brodhead, WI, and from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brodhead, WI.
Howard never met a person he didn’t like and loved making people laugh with his jokes.
