Ruth Janet (Pinnow) Wendler, age 99, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018, at her home. She was born on January 15, 1919 in Rock Grove, Stephenson County, IL, the daughter of William C. and Anna Ida Martha (Ronneburg) Pinnow.
Ruth attended Pleasant View School, northeast of Rock Grove, until the family moved to Brodhead when she was 8 years old to their farm on County G, rural Brodhead. She then attended Poplar Grove School. She graduated from Brodhead High School in 1937 and from the Wisconsin Academy of Cosmetic Art in Milwaukee, Class of 1938. She married Gilbert “Bub” Wendler at the State Line Trinity Lutheran Church on November 24, 1940. They farmed on Mt. Hope Rd., Spring Grove Township, south of Brodhead, She worked as a beautician for many years, as well as in the Order Department at Swiss Colony of Monroe. Ruth was a charter member of the Green County Association for Retarded Citizens and a dedicated poll worker for Spring Grove Township. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead, and worked with the quilting group for many years, which sent thousands of quilts every year to third world countries. In retirement, she regularly volunteered at St. Vincent's in Monroe. She stayed active with water exercise classes at the YMCA, playing Bingo, and working on daily crossword and word find puzzles.
Ruth is survived by a son, Milt (Kathy) Wendler, Janesville; daughters, Lorraine (Dan) Olson, Dolores (Ron) Schupbach, both of Brodhead, Christine Wendler Anschutz, Egg Harbor; grandchildren, Chris Olson, Daphne Johnson, Steve Wendler, Tim Wendler, Mark Wendler, Nancy Schupbach, Sara Williams; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Alfred Pinnow, Charles Pinnow Gene (Annie) Pinnow, sisters, Ann (Howard) Wallace, Eileen Capion, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert "Bub" in 1982, son Marlan in 2007, son-in-law, Steve Anschutz in 1998, grandson Dan Wendler in June 2018, brothers Roy, Earl, Leslie Pinnow, and sister, Rosie Bliss.
Ruth was known for her canning and baking skills, especially pies, cinnamon rolls, breads and homemade ketchup. Our love for her will never end, and life lessons and her peaceful nature will never be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 20, 2018, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead with Rev. Peder Johanson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead.
