William Oscar Vigdahl

April 23, 1938 ~ July 18, 2018 (age 80)

William “Bill” O. Vigdahl, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Beloit Senior Living, Beloit, WI.  He was born on April 23, 1938 in Rock County, WI, the son of Oscar and Helen (Harper) Vigdahl. He married Harlene Taylor on February 22, 1958.

Bill attended Spring Valley Corners Grade School and graduated from Brodhead High School in 1956.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1963. Bill was a member of the Spring Valley 4-H Club and the Brodhead High School FFA, as a youth.  He was also a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he was an usher for many years, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 191, Beloit, The American Legion Post 0911 of Wauconda, and an honorary member of the V.F.W. Post 2306 of Beloit.  Bill owned and operated the Finnigan Gas Station in Brodhead from 1959 to 1963.  He was a foreman at Warner Brake and Clutch Co., in South Beloit.  He was employed by Monterey Mills, Janesville, from 1972 to 1981 where he was the plant electrician.  He then worked for McGrath Electric in Janesville for 8 years and retired from Carroll Electric in Beloit in September of 2000.  Bill enjoyed reading, writing poetry and working with electricity. 

He is survived by his wife Harlene, three children, Linda (Sandy) Nelson, Roscoe, IL, Thomas (Diane) Vigdahl, Beloit, Judith (Jon) Hartlep, Tucson, AZ; two sisters, Lorraine (Burleigh) Bartlett, Monroe, Geneva Johnson, Madison, WI; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandson.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers-in-law, Delos Johnson and Merlin Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2018, at the D.L. Newcomer Funeral Home, Brodhead, WI, with Chaplain Mark Maxted officiating.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead, WI.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m., Monday, until time of services at the funeral home.
